Introduction. The present paper presents an outline of the results obtained by the authors in a study of the post-Potomac Cretaceous formations in the states of New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. The work constitutes a part of a series of investigations which has embraced the whole sequence of Cretaceous-Tertiary formations throughout this area, and which is still in progress. Considerable advance has already been made both in the interpretation and cartographic representation of the other divisions of the series, and they will shortly be made the subject of further contributions.
